Functional Movement

FMT has become a popular term and marketing term in gyms and across the fitness industry. Put simply, it’s a title to describe a general method of training which focuses on Compound Movements. These are broad movements used in daily life and might include:

  • Hip Hinge
  • Squat
  • Lunge
  • Horizontal Push
  • Horizontal Pull
  • Vertical Push
  • Vertical Pull
  • Carry/Gait
  • Twist/Rotation

Balance, planes of movement and muscle synergy is central to our philosophy – but Body-Technix never approaches your training with general, cut and paste FMT programming. Your body is unique in its movement and posture. Simply doing these exercises will not correct all the types of movement dysfunction you may have developed over time, or your susceptibility to certain injuries. Main muscle groups may have learned to do the work of others which have ‘switched off’ and you would often be working those compensations, exacerbating the problem. Simply doing these general movements is not ideal in delivering success or avoiding injury on the sports’ field. We strive to deliver a different standard of detail to the programmes we design.
